Christmas in California
This is the second holiday season in a row that I’ve not been able to go home (home, if you don’t know me, is across the pond in Hawaii). Now, I’m not complaining. I love California. But it’s always a little bit harder this time of year when I’m here and my family is thousands of miles away.
It’s funny. You spend so much of your younger life waiting to grow up and move out, and now that I am older I honestly look forward to the time that I get to spend with friends and family, because it’s becoming more and more rare. Now that my parents have left (flights between Hawaii and California are crazy expensive this time of year, so they visited a few weeks before Christmas), I’m admittedly a little nostalgic. But, I spent this past Christmas surrounded by amazing friends, my boyfriend, and my boyfriend’s family, which was a riot as always (newfound love: fried tamales. Who’s with me?). I am thankful for everyone I call family, and for amazing company, great food, and unforgettable memories.
My boyfriend’s family likes to ring in holidays with a huge party at his aunt’s (tía’s? I’m learning) house. Since it’s outdoors and a little cold (by my standards), I wanted to be comfortable and, more importantly, warm. These over-the-knee boots (Sam Edelman) are my newest babies. I’ve been wanting a pair for ages but I could never justify the cost/the amount of times I’d actually wear them since California is warm year-round, but I got an Amazon gift card for Christmas, so I said screw it! They are warm, legitimately easy to walk in, and they actually really do stay up (10/10 would recommend). I paired my boots with a green mini skirt, a herringbone knit bell sleeve top, and a coat. I went with a skirt in order to let the boots shine, so I guess I kind of let the whole warmth thing go by the wayside. Suffice it to say I spent most of the evening under a blanket and right next to the fire!
